Decoration Day

Kevin and I started a new tradition for our family:
Decoration Day
We always end up putting our Christmas stuff up before Thanksgiving because we are always out of town and then by the time we come back, we feel crunched for time. So, we decided to make a tradition out of it. Of course our plans were much bigger than our actions. We wanted to have the outside and the inside decorated today and have a lighting ceremony and a nice (but easy) dinner. Well, we got the front done and the inside partially decorated. So much for big plans!

Let's take a short walk down memory lane!
Here is one of my favorite pictures from last year.
Kiera helping Kevin put the lights in the yard:

And here she is again helping Daddy. She acutally did help this year:

After we got everything up, we waited for it to get dark.
Here she is awaiting the lighting ceremony.

1, 2, 3, Plug it in Daddy!

WOW!
This year, we actually did not do as much as we usually do. We decided to do only a few icicle lights. We are a little tired of them. We plan on putting some lights in the back yard, where we can actually enjoy them. Those pictures will be available when the lights actually get put up. :)After the lighting ceremony, we enjoyed a nice dinner of our favorite...Chicken Tortilla Soup.

To end the day, we read our favorite book and donned our favorite Holiday hat:

I am beginning to love this time of year. I think Christmas starts so early here because there isn't Thanksgiving to break it up. Plus when there is snow on the ground it makes it a little hard to go out.

The lights look great!! I had grand plans of getting the decorating started this weekend too, but haven't gotten around to it yet with all the cooking I've been doing. Maybe I'll come home on Wednesday and find that John has already done it - since he's off? (A girl can dream, right?!)
