So, what does some genius come up with..... collecting all supplies to go into a class set. So, there go all my beautifully named colors floating in a plastic bin with some cheap imitations. And if that weren't enough... they outlawed mechanical pencils. Teachers thought this was just brilliant thinking. They collected everything and redistributed, so the supplies would last longer. Well, you know what happened..... the supplies did last longer for those that don't take care of their stuff. Turns out, just a little longer though because Johnny still doesn't put the cap back on the markers tightly and he still breaks the crayon when he attempts to color his picture. So now instead instead of a handful of students with dilapidated supplies, you have six class sets that are dilapidated.
So, you are probably wondering why we are talking about school supplies in the middle of November. Well, the whole class set vs. individual supplies reminds me of our political parties. The Republicans let you keep your own supplies and entrust that you will take care of your possessions and make them last. They stay out of your stuff for the most part. The Democrats collect everyones sets and redisdribute making it fair for everyone. They figure some people can't afford supplies so everyone else has to share.
I am personally for the let's keep our own supplies because I know how to take care of my stuff and I don't want anyone's Rose Art Markers mingling with my Crayolas! But, that is just the way I see it!

Very Colorfully written. and thats all I can say about that ;)
Oh my gosh... I LOVE IT! That is so true... I never realized that my conservative tendencies dated back that far. :-) HA! I was getting all upset for the poor kids that have OCD - because I would personally get a twitch if I had to use something that wasn't perfectly taken care of.
Ummm - I'm the girl that has to rewrite her "to do" list if I need to scratch something off of it. (Wow... I have serious issues!)
I have been thinking about this since Saturday. You wrote exactly what I was thinking. I hate Rose Art crayons.
Sometimes life isn't fair. When it isn't your fault, that's life and I am willing to share my crayons while you are down. When your too lazy or make it happen for yourself, that has nothing to do with fairness and I say, go get your own crayons. Afterall, I have to work for mine.
I like the way you think, Jillian.
