So I cruised, well I crawled, down to the Medical District to have my MRI done and when I got there, the little guy at the counter said, "Well I have contacted your insurance and that will be $1046." Well then, let me just whip out my checkbook and write you a check that will bounce all the way to next year! So, I told him I thought it was covered under the insurance and I do not have that kind of money. He said, with a very straight face, "Well, we will take $500 today and you can pay the remainder in January." So I said with a little chuckle, "How about $100 for ten months?" He agreed. I felt like I had just bought a used car.
So at this point I am feeling a little uneasy about the whole situation as I am signing my life away on the ream of paper they gave me. I usually don't read those, but for some reason I did. The form where I have to sign consent to use contrast said I cannot nurse for 48 hours. So I went back to the cheerful little money stealer and told him I am nursing a baby and cannot have contrast. He siad, "well maybe you could just feed her formula for the next two days?" Did he just say FORMULA??? That is a BAD word amongst us nursing moms. So, told him I didn't really think that was a good idea and he had a new suggestion. "Why don't you go home and pump enough for the next two days and then come back tomorrow for the MRI." I told him it doesn't really work like that. I can't just go home today and magically come up with 32 oz of formula in one day. So, after speaking to my ENTs nurse, I left without my MRI. I will give the guy some credit for being creative. I think he was all of 23 years old. So cute, but so clueless.
So, I am not sure what will happen at this point. But, I am not paying $1000 dollars for a precautionary procedure.

Geez! It sure seems like they should have called to tell you about the charge before the actual proceedure appointment! I always get a call a day or two before to tell me what my portion of the payment will be... sorry Jenn!
